Description
Economic development is critical to a community, as are the arts and culture. Both help create the personality and the heartbeat of a city. How do those two seemingly opposite topics complement each other to make our area stronger?
Philip Mann, executive director of external affairs for the Alabama Center for the Arts, will explain the role of the arts and culture in economic and community development at the next YP Leadership Luncheon, presented by Ascend Performance Materials.
Prior to assuming his role in the fall of 2018, Mann served for 10 years as division director of live performance and music industry development for Louisiana Economic Development. In his tenure with the agency, his work served to transform the arts and cultural landscape of post-Katrina New Orleans as well as cities throughout Louisiana. He served on the legislative affairs council of The Broadway League in New York City, and he was the first government employee to be offered this honor.
Mann attended Birmingham Southern College and the University of Alabama at Birmingham where he majored in philosophy before becoming a professional drummer touring throughout the southeastern US from 1993-1998.
Come learn the role young people can play in this critical part of our community's identity, and what you can do to support the effort moving forward.
