Job Description
The North Central Alabama Regional Council of Governments is seeking a Director for its Area Agency on Aging.  The position will be located at the Council’s central office in Decatur, Alabama.   

The Area
The area served by the Area Agency on Aging covers three counties in north central Alabama.  Those counties are Cullman County, Lawrence County and Morgan County.  In addition to the three counties, there are 24 municipalities within the region.  The total population of the area is approximately 240,000 in a mix of rural and urban communities.  Situated on the southerly bank of the Tennessee River, the area has ample opportunities for outdoor recreation.  The employment base is largely industrial with the local economy having a strong agricultural component as well.

The Agency
The Area Agency on Aging is a component of the Regional Council of Governments.  The Council is made up of a Board of Directors representing the local governments of the three county region.  The Council is staffed by an administrative department, which includes the chief executive officer and the chief financial officer, along with the Regional Planning Agency, the Regional Transit Agency and the Area Agency on Aging.  The programs of the Area Agency on Aging include, but are not limited to, services related to senior nutrition, health and wellness, caregiver support, legal services, senior employment, long-term care, and in-home care.  The Agency serves as the Aging and Disability Resource Center for the region.

The Position
The Director of the Area Agency on Aging is responsible for the planning and operations of the programs and services of the Agency.  This include budgeting, program monitoring and personnel management.  The Director is responsible for a budget of approximately $6,000,000.  There are 22 regular employees, 40 senior employees, and a variety of volunteers.  The Director is expected to be creative and proactive in the expansion of services and funding.  The Director must develop positive working relationships with political, governmental and community leadership throughout the region and with state and Federal agencies.  The Director reports to the Executive Director who is the chief executive officer for the Council.  The Director will be a member of the Council’s central management team.  As such, the Director is expected to be a knowledgeable advocate for all Council programs and services, whether or not they relate to senior services.  The compensation package includes a starting salary of $62,513 negotiable with benefits including medical insurance and retirement.
