The Chamber's annual Montgomery Public Policy trip will feature two days of meetings with members of the Alabama Legislature to discuss issues impacting our business community, as well as tours of area landmarks integral to our state history.
Excellence in Leadership is the premier leader development program for business professionals in Decatur-Morgan County directed toward individuals in our community who demonstrate leadership potential. A class of approximately 40 participants will have the opportunity to better understand our community, the challenges it faces, and to prepare for those challenges by meeting with and learning from other leaders in our area. The program offers numerous educational opportunities to broaden perspectives and gain an increased understanding of community dynamics and public issues. This is a ten-month program culminating with a graduation ceremony held during the Chamber's Annual Small Business Awards Celebration in May.
Edge Student Leadership is designed for high school sophomores and juniors and is comprised of approximately 36 youth from Morgan County, Decatur City, and Hartselle City Schools, as well as some private, parochial, and home school students. Edge is a development program designed to prepare high school students to become leaders in their school and community. The group meets 1 day a month for nine months, where each month focuses on a different topic: Team Building, Decatur Now & Then, Law & Order, Healthcare & Education, Poverty Simulation, Economic Development, State Government, as well as a Kick-Off and Graduation event. *Monthly meetings of Edge Student Leadership are not open to the public. The SuperStar Teacher program recognizes teachers in the Decatur-Morgan County area who show excellence in leadership, creativity, and imagination in and out of the classroom setting. SuperStar Teachers make learning fun, support their students and are active in their community. They will be recognized by the Chamber and sponsors in a school setting a given a $150 gift card for use in their classroom and a $50 gift card for personal use. School principals will submit nominations via a form provided by the Chamber and judging will be conducted by sponsors and one member of the Chamber?s Board of Directors.
The Chamber's 2025 Annual Meeting - presented by Indorama Ventures - is an opportunity to celebrate the past 12 months in our community while looking ahead to anticipate what's next for Decatur-Morgan County. Outgoing Chair John Holley will pass the gavel to incoming Chair Kelli Powers. Also, the Chamber will present the Athelyne C. Banks Citizen of the Year Award sponsored by Redstone Federal Credit Union and the Rosie Hennessy Award sponsored by Habitat ReStore, the latter to recognize our Commodore of the Year.
Join us on Wednesday, April 2 at Pryor Field Regional Airport for our next Emerging Leaders event. Airport Director Adam Fox will share updates on the airport's latest developments including a new taxiway, expanded corporate hangar space, terminal renovation and workforce training opportunities in partnership Calhoun Community College. He will also discuss plans for a new ramp, two aviation maintenance companies locating onsite and an upcoming air show in September.
With a mission to positively impact our current employee pipeline to build a more capable and sustainable workforce, the Workforce Coalition has a specific focus on problem resolution.
