1st Quarter Workforce Coalition Meeting:
Visit to West Alabama Works & West Alabama Chamber of Commerce in Tuscaloosa, AL
On Tuesday, March 5, our Workforce Coalition will visit West AlabamaWorks! for a day of touring Tuscaloosa's technical academies. Executive Director Donny Jones will explain how they've transformed their economic, educational and workforce development strategies into a nationally recognized workforce champion.
The mission of the Workforce Coalition is to share workforce concerns so we can connect them to the proper resources to build a more capable and sustainable workforce.

9:30am-10:30am - Visit - Brookwood Career Technical Annex, 15981 Hwy 216 Brookwood, AL 35444
The flagship Modern Manufacturing program, established through a partnership with Tuscaloosa County School System and West AlabamaWorks!, operates within the Brookwood Career Tech Annex. It offers Modern Manufacturing and Logistics programs aimed at preparing students for college and careers. Since its inception in 2017, this Governor's office-recognized program aligns industry needs with education. Hear from local industry executives about program achievements and from education leaders on business partnerships. Region 3 currently has 611 students enrolled in eight accredited MMCOE schools.
10:30am-11:45am - Orientation - Donny Jones, COO of the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama and Executive Director of West AlabamaWorks! will lead a discussion on how our integrated economic, education, and workforce development strategies have elevated the organization to national recognition as a workforce champion.
11:45am-12:30pm – Lunch - MBUSI Partnership Discussion, Rolf Wrona & Chip Fuqua
12:45pm - Depart - Tuscaloosa Career Technical Academy, 2800 Martin Luther Kind Blvd Tuscaloosa, AL 35401
1:15pm-2:30pm - Tour - Career technical high school and meet with Dr. Mike Daria, Tuscaloosa City Schools Superintendent. By aligning education with business needs, career technical education in Tuscaloosa seeks to eliminate the worker shortfall by creating an industry-driven model for our students.
Workforce Coalition Meeting - With a mission to positively impact our current employee pipeline to build a more capable and sustainable workforce, the Workforce Coalition has a specific focus on problem resolution: industry brings challenges to the table regarding their current workforce needs and concerns. Through this open communication between community stakeholders, we can provide support in connecting them to the proper resources. The group is a partnership between the Chamber and the Morgan County Economic Development Association.
