Calhoun Community College Announces New Vice President of Student Services

Calhoun Community College is proud to announce the appointment of Kassie Mathis as the new Vice President of Student Services, effective October 1. With over 17 years of experience in higher education, Mathis has dedicated her career to supporting student success and fostering dynamic learning environments.

“We are thrilled to have Kassie join our leadership team,” commented Dr. Jimmy Hodges, Calhoun President. “Her wealth of experience, passion for student development, and proven leadership make her an excellent fit for this vital role. We are confident that she will help take our student services to new heights and continue to ensure student success across all levels,” adds Hodges.

Mathis entered the education field in 2007, starting as an adjunct instructor at Gadsden State Community College. Shortly after, she became a Career Coach in 2008 while continuing her role as an adjunct. She quickly advanced into leadership positions, serving in roles such as HBCU Title III Director, Adult Education Director at Jefferson State Community College, and most recently, Dean of Students at Enterprise State Community College. Her experience includes providing administrative leadership in areas such as admissions, financial aid, student success and advising, student support services, and athletics. Under her guidance, Enterprise State saw significant enrollment increases and secured federal grants, demonstrating her ability to create impactful programs and drive institutional growth.

Not only has Mathis led initiatives to improve recruitment and retention, but she has also implemented policies that enhance student experiences and promote academic success. Her leadership has earned her a place on numerous committees, including Chair of the Diversity Awareness Committee and the Title IX Committee.

“I’m excited to join Calhoun Community College and contribute to an institution that is so committed to student success,” Mathis said. “I look forward to working with the amazing team here to provide the best possible support and opportunities for our students,” Mathis adds.

In addition to her higher education expertise, Mathis has completed several leadership development programs, including the Alabama Community College System Leadership Academy, further preparing her for this role at Calhoun.

Mathis holds a Master of Business Administration from Jacksonville State University and a Bachelor of Science in Business from Birmingham-Southern College. Her commitment to student-centered leadership and strategic program development will continue to drive success for Calhoun students and the broader college community.
