Alabama Goodwill is Expanding its Reach into the Decatur Community

Alabama Goodwill Industries (AGI) is thrilled to announce the upcoming soft opening and grand opening of its newest retail store in Decatur, AL. The store will also include a drive-up drop-off donor door for convenience.

The soft opening of the new Goodwill store begins Tuesday, August 1, 2023. The event is open to the public and serves as a dress rehearsal for the official grand opening, which is Thursday, August 3, 2023.

"The grand opening on August 3 kicks off at 8:45am with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by a special prize giveaway to the first 100 people in the door,” according to Kathy Taylor, Vice President of Marketing and Fund Development.

The new store, located in the old Office Max building at 1682-B Beltline Road S.W. in Decatur has created 20 jobs for Alabamians overcoming various challenges.

AGI’s mission supports Alabamians with barriers to employment through job creation, free skills trainings, work-based learning, and other curriculums and free services. Alabama Goodwill Industries' goal over the next several years is to create 500 new jobs in a statewide expansion.

"Directly supported by the revenue generated from the sales of donated goods, these jobs help community members enter or re-enter the workforce and find self-sufficiency through the power of work. The support of the community has been instrumental in making this possible, and we are grateful for the opportunity to serve and make a positive impact on the lives of individuals in need of a fresh start,” said President and CEO David Wells.

The new store and donation drive thru will operate Monday-Saturdays from 9:00am to 7:00pm, and on Sundays from 11:00am – 7:00pm.

This is the second location for Alabama Goodwill in Decatur. The Point Mallard location is an Attended Donation Center (ADC), located at 2934 Point Mallard Pkwy SE. An ADC is an alternative to donating at Goodwill retail stores, and makes it easier than ever to donate, help, and make an impact. When dropping off donations, a donor can drive up, where an employee will greet customers, unload their donations and give them a receipt, with the customer never having to leave their vehicle.
