From Self-Doubt to Service: A Calhoun Student’s Powerful Journey to Purpose

For Giovanni Santiano, the journey to becoming a nurse was about much more than earning a degree. It was about finding purpose, proving something to himself, and turning his struggles into strength. This Thursday at 4 p.m., Giovanni will proudly walk across the stage at Calhoun Community College’s commencement ceremony, held at the Propst Arena in the Von Braun Center. He will graduate with a degree in Nursing, celebrating a milestone that once felt out of reach for a young man who once questioned if he belonged in college at all.

This journey began with a simple yet profound decision: to pursue a career in nursing. Motivated by a deep desire to make a difference in people's lives, he enrolled in Calhoun’s rigorous Nursing program. Balancing academic challenges with personal responsibilities, he demonstrated unwavering commitment to his goal.

Throughout the program, Giovanni faced numerous obstacles that tested his resilience. Long hours of study, demanding clinical rotations, and the emotional toll of patient care could have been overwhelming.
