JOB DESCRIPTION
DIVISION: Medical Unit – DMCC, MLCC
HOURS: Full Time - 40 Hours Weekly - As Assigned
SUPERVISOR: Medical Unit Coordinator
POSITIONS SUPERVISED: None
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
? Assist clients with access to physician/nurse as scheduled. (greet patients, take patient
statistics, i.e., height and weight, also inform patient if physician is running behind
schedule, taking messages for physician, etc.).
? Review physicians schedule. (Examples of tasks: review the schedule for accuracy;
inform physician of changes, meetings and trainings).
? Charts. (Examples of tasks: organize charts for the day, review charts for release and
consent for medication is up-to-date, if not place on chart for physician to complete,
ensure patient is being seen by physician at least every 8 weeks, confirm lab work,
correspondence, notes are signed and filed in chart appropriately pull charts that are
flagged for doctor signature and/or corrections during the day when there is a no-show
or during blocked paperwork time, in accordance with Board procedures. Assist in
sorting and filing physician medical assessments in the chart.)
? Make sure dictations from previous day reached transcription.
? Assist physician with office tasks. (Examples of tasks: making appropriate phone calls,
taking messages, faxing lab work/EKG to appropriate areas making sure appropriate
releases are signed, etc.)
? Participates in team effort of the medical unit. (Examples of tasks: staff cases with other
med unit employees; back up other med staff as needed, etc.)
? Travel to assigned sites to coincide with the assigned doctor’s schedule.
? Other duties assigned.
CRITICAL TASKS: Providing assistance to doctors.
EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION:
? Education: High school graduate.
? Certificate/Licensure: Nursing license, if LPN.
? Experience: At least one year medical office experience.
MINIMUM EXPECTATIONS:
? Skills: Ability to relate well to clients; ability to manage diverse responsibilities and
function with minimal supervision; good communication skills; work as part of a team;
prior use of medical software helpful; Ability to relate well to a multi-disciplinary staff.
? Employees will be screened for tuberculosis prior to initiation of duties. Annual
screening thereafter will occur only if there has been known exposure or evidence of
ongoing tuberculosis transmission.
? Must be able to work in a cooperative manner with co-workers, supervisors, and other
staff in the company.
? Performs other related duties as required. (Related duties as required are duties which
may not be specifically listed in the duties and responsibilities description, but are within
the general occupational series and responsibility level typically associated with the
employee’s class of work.)
? Must be able to follow company policies and procedures.
? Must work the days and hours necessary to perform all assigned responsibilities and
tasks. Must be available (especially during regular business hours or shifts) to
communicate with supervisors, clients, vendors and any other person or organization
with whom interaction is required to accomplish work and project goals.
? Must be punctual and timely in meeting all requirements of performance, including, but
not limited to, attendance standards, work deadlines, and beginning and ending
assignments on time.
TRAINING:
? Training on abuse and neglect and all state laws pertaining to abuse and neglect
including reporting required by the Department of Human Resources. Training is
required prior to working alone with consumers and on an annual basis.
? Initial training on professionally accepted management of aggressive/assaultive behavior
and crisis intervention techniques.
? Infection control: Staff shall be trained prior to working with consumers and annually
thereafter.
